We are very excited to have numerous Greater Vancouver area model railroad layouts available again to host prototypical operating sessions as part of this year’s Railway Modellers Meet of BC. In fact, for 2017 several new layouts are offered for your consideration, and there is a record capacity of operating positions available. All RMMBC paid registrants are entitled to participate in operating sessions; however, you must sign up in advance through the event registration process.

Because the format of the meet has been modified from 2016 and we are trying to consider all the constructive feedback from previous Ops attendees, sessions will be offered on both Friday afternoon and Saturday evening. Registrants need to indicate on the registration form which session(s) they want to register for. You are welcome, and in fact, encouraged to sign up for both this year we have an increased capacity over 2016 so should be able to accommodate everyone.

In addition, in response to our survey feedback, we will be offering Timetable & Train Order (TT&TO) learning sessions that are specifically designed and targeted to folks that have little knowledge on how this prototype operating strategy actually works These sessions will combine some “classroom” time with actual hands-on layout experience – without the stress of an actual full blown op session. There will be numerous home crew mentors to help everyone have fun and learn about this popular operation methodology.
There is a place to indicate interest in this opportunity on the registration form. Please remember that these sessions will be offered during the same time slot that the regular operating sessions are offered. Space will limited for these sessions, therefore, out of town attendees who are essentially quite new to operations will be afforded priority if space fills up. If you already have some basic knowledge of TT&TO, this offering will not be for you. Depending on how these sessions are received, enhanced operations sessions may be offered in 2018.

The Ops Coordinator will contact you directly once your name is received from the event Registrar to confirm your interest and formally sign you up. Layout preferences will be welcomed closer to the event dates. Not all layouts will be offered for both sessions and the list below is tentative until it is labeled FINAL. Should any session be oversubscribed, the Coordinator will employ lottery type strategies in combination with geographical proximity parameters to assign positions. Please ensure you are able to arrive 15 minutes before the session start time and can remain for the duration before requesting a position. The sessions generally last between 3 to 4 hours at the discretion of the layout owner. Attendees are responsible for their own transportation and guests are NOT permitted at these sessions.

Detailed information, locations and assignments for the layouts will be released to the attendees once the final layout assignments are completed by the Coordinator – usually about 7 to 10 days prior to the event. The particular layout that a registrant will operate on will be dependent on which layouts has been requested, the demand for each layout, and will be determined by the Operating Sessions Coordinator at his discretion

While some information about the layouts is provided below, more information can be found on the VanRail Ops event web site
VanRail
Please note that not all layouts featured on the VanRail site will be offered at RMM.

Any questions regarding the Operating Sessions can be sent to the Coordinator, operating sessions
however, all requests to participate must be done through the registration process.
